What is most useful
- Documents. Filings, memoranda, correspondence, agendas, minutes, contracts, staff reports. A document we can read ourselves is worth more than a characterisation of it.
- Pointers. You do not need to have the record — telling us it exists, and roughly where, is often enough. Public records requests are free and we will file them.
- Recollections. Especially from the 1978–1998 period, which is thinly documented online and sits mostly in people's memories and filing cabinets.
- Corrections. Point to the passage and, if you can, to the record that contradicts it. See Corrections.
What we can promise
- We read everything. We cannot promise to reply to everything.
- We will not publish your name, or details that would identify you, without your agreement.
- We will not print a claim we cannot document. If you tell us something we cannot verify, it may shape where we look without ever appearing in a story.
- If we are going to write about you, we will contact you first and put the specific findings to you before publication. See Ethics.
What we cannot promise
Email is not secure and this is a small project, not an institution with a legal department. We do not currently operate an encrypted drop box. If disclosing something would put your job, tenancy or safety at risk, please consider that carefully before sending it from a work account or a work device — and consider whether a larger outlet with proper source-protection infrastructure is the safer route. We would rather lose a story than have you exposed by our limitations.
Not this
We do not accept donations, sponsorship, advertising or paid placement of any kind, and we do not maintain a mailing list. Please do not offer. See About.
